Research Tools

TripAdvisor – is one of the best well-known resources to review places of attraction, restaurants, hotels, and many more! The best thing about TripAdvisor is that ratings and reviews are provided by real travelers, and it will be easier to choose which restaurant or hotel is worth your time.

Transportation

Aviasales – is a good resource for cheap flights where you can also be redirected to Booking.com as soon as you choose the date for your visit. Flights and accommodation in one place!

CheapOair – this source is another great one for the flight search and you can subscribe for fare alerts, so that you wouldn’t miss out on the best deals!

Rome2Rio – is a good resource for finding the best route for your itinerary. It literally searches through all transportation providers and gives you all the possible transportation options, their time and the price. We probably have used this one for ALL of our trips, especially in the beginning stages of planning.

Flixbus – our go-to bus provider with Europe is now also available in the US. If you’re looking for a quick and cheap way to get from destination A to B, we highly recommend Flixbus. As with any budget transportation company, we had great and not so great experiences but overall it’s a good budget alternative that you can often rely on if you’re short on money.

BlaBlaCar – this is a carpooling platform connecting drivers who have space in their car with people travelling in the same direction. It is mostly used in Europe at this moment, but you can find it in Mexico and Brazil as well.

Kiwi.com – another transportation platform that often offers connecting routes that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. The Kiwi algorithm manages to connect train, bus routes with flights in one combined itinerary which is great if you are searching for the fastest route or for the most cheapest. We have used Kiwi in the past when other resources have failed us.

Accommodation

Booking.com – a platform with a very large selection of different types of accommodation: hotels, hostels, guesthouses, private housing. The main reason we recommend using Booking.com is that they often offer free cancellation on the majority of places and you can even get a very good discount if you’re a part of their “Genius” program.

HostelWorld – this one is mostly for budget travellers who are looking for hostels or guesthouses. We are often using this one if we can’t find a proper hostel through Booking.com. The prices are often lower than Booking.com but there are more limitations on the cancellation policy. Also, it is our go-to resource to find more reviews of hostels as it is a go-to website for backpackers within Europe and other continents.

Hotellook – this source gives a convenient comparison of prices in hotels among a variety of platforms such as Booking.com and Agoda. Also, you can see the price differences in terms of the room type. It’s a very helpful source for the ones, who are searching for the best accommodation deal.

Couch Surfing – alternative way is to go ahead and live with locals. Locals are offering you a free bed or sometimes even a room, you only need to pay for food and drinks. Also, you get to converse with locals and learn a bit more about the culture.

Booking activities

Viator and GetYourGuide – both are tour and activities providers with a vast number of everything all over the world. We find that in some places Viator has a wider selection while GetYourGuide has a wider one or better offer in other places. Either way, it is good to check both of them when planning a trip to see if you can get the best deal.
